Travel tips

Contrary to airports, you do not have to go through a lengthy customs procedure at railway stations (with the exception of traffic to and from London through the Channel Tunnel). However, we recommend you arrive at the station with a reasonable amount of time to spare before departure, especially if you have not bought your ticket yet or are unfamiliar with the station. If you have any questions on this matter, please ask our members of staff directly when purchasing a ticket.

We recommend you purchase your ticket in advance. Tickets for long-distance journeys can always be bought in advance. However, if you have decided to travel at short notice, please allow sufficient time for the purchase. Many larger stations sell tickets for immediate travel at express ticket offices; however there may be queues, especially in peak travel periods.

Please also allow sufficient time for connecting trains. The connections for further travel provided in the timetable take into account a minimum time for changing trains. However, you must decide for yourself how much time you need for changing over. By using a journey planner you will automatically have a suitable changeover time integrated into your itinerary.
